prof. dr. REGULA RAPP rector

Regula Rapp was born, 1961 and began her tenure as rector of the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin on April 1, 2022. She studied harpsichord, musicology, philosophy and art history in Berlin and wrote her doctoral thesis in 1990 on the last student of Johann Sebastian Bach, Johann Gottfried Müthel, and his concerti for harpsichord and strings. From 1992 to 1998, she was a research assistant and deputy director of the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis – University of Early Music in Basel, Switzerland. In 1998/1999 she was a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin and from 1999 to 2005 chief dramaturge at the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden. She worked as a guest dramaturge at the Salzburg Festival, the Zurich Opera and the Theater an der Wien. In 2004 Regula Rapp was a fellow at the International Research Center for Cultural Studies (IFK) in Vienna. In 2005, she returned to the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis as its rector; in 2012 she became the rector of the Stuttgart Academy of Music and Performing Arts. In 2015, Regula Rapp turned down an appointment as rector of the Vienna Music University. In 2019 she was confirmed in her Stuttgart office; in 2021 she was elected rector of the Barenboim-Said Akademie. In this position, she succeeds its founding rector, Prof. Dr. Michael Naumann.
