master of music
The Barenboim-Said Akademie offers a two-year Master of Music degree in orchestral instruments, piano, and composition. The program gives accomplished musicians the opportunity to further develop their artistic abilities while also engaging advanced academic study, including the humanities.
The degree consists of 120 ECTS credits, divided into ten related modules. Students receive individual instrumental instruction and participate in ensemble work under the guidance of internationally recognized faculty.
Alongside their performance studies, they take advanced courses in the humanities and musicology. These courses foster intellectual curiosity, critical reflection, and effective written and oral expression. The humanities curriculum includes required courses in philosophy, history, and literature, and will eventually be supplemented by offerings in transcultural music pedagogy/music mediation as well as elective seminars in related disciplines.
At the end of their studies, Master of Music students complete both a final recital and a research-based academic project.
The program welcomed its first cohort in the summer semester of 2024.
