To help you prepare your application, we have also included some practical guidance on this page, including a downloadable checklist of useful equipment and tips for creating your pre-screening audition videos.
Creating Pre-Screening Audition videos
Essential Equipment
A video recording device: phone, tablet, camera, or webcam.
Basic video editing software. built-in phone tools, iMovie, Windows Movie Maker, or similar.
Optional Equipment
A separate audio recorder (microphone, Zoom, phone, or tablet).
A tripod for video and/or audio devices.
Recording
Choose a quiet room and allow enough time for recording.
If using a separate microphone, place it in the middle of the room for balanced sound.
Make a short test recording with both soft and loud passages. Check sound balance, distance, and camera angle.
Adjust placement or settings if the sound is distorted or the microphone overloads.
Ensure you are clearly visible in the camera frame.
Each piece must be recorded in one continuous take (no editing or splicing).
Recordings should be recent: videos must be made within the two months prior to submission.
Older recordings, including past concerts, will not be accepted.
Record each piece several times in full to have multiple takes to choose from.
Editing
Select your best complete takes. Each piece must be saved as a separate file for upload.
Do not splice together different takes, manipulate recordings, or use filters.
Audio and video quality must be good, with the performer clearly visible.
Creating Links
Upload your videos to a platform such as YouTube or Vimeo, or upload directly to your SlideRoom portfolio.
Generate a separate link for each piece.
Uploading Links
In the application portal, copy your video links into the designated fields.
List the composer and title of each piece accurately.
Helpful Tips
Use good lighting. Avoid standing in front of bright light sources; natural or well-lit rehearsal spaces work best
If recording video and audio separately, sync them by clapping your hands in view of the camera at the start of each take.
If possible, ask a friend to assist with setup, playback checks, and feedback.
